It's official, the record has been broken for the biggest wave ever surfed. Rodrigo Koxa, from Brazil, hucked into this 80-foot Nazare bomb back in November, overtaking G-Mac's record set in 2011.
We speculated that it could well have been the biggest of all time, analysing the footage just few days after Koxa graced the face of that wave in Portugal. And it's pipped Garrett's wave by two foot. For Rodrigo, it's a little big of redemption after having a near fatal incident at Nazare a few years back.
“I try to surf big waves all my life and I had a huge experience in 2014 where I almost died at Nazaré,” Koxa said. “Four months later, I had bad dreams, I didn’t travel, I got scared, and my wife helped me psychologically. Now, I’m just so happy and this is the best day of my life. Thank you to WSL, it’s a dream come true.”
The announcement was made at the WSL's Big Wave Awards over the weekend, where of course Koxa won this year's biggest wave surfed award.
