Southern California is for good reason surfing's second home after Hawaii and the base of much of the industry. Famously surfed by Duke Kahanamoku in 1915 these sunshine beaches hold numerous classic set-ups. The degree of swell exposure, to storms from both the North and South Pacific mean year-round swell. Summer is slightly less consistent but still excellent by most standards. In autumn and and early spring the Santa Ana wind brings weeks of offshore conditions. If these combine with south swells then Malibu and Trestles will fire whereas places such as Rincon require a more northerly swell.

Part of what makes this event fun is not only the surfing, but the abundance of nature, the trails, camping and peacefulness offered by this majestic area of southern California. ? Getting to the beach and lower trestles requires a hike through a peaceful valley past a Native American burial ground. The natural offerings of this area make the trip worth while. combining the beach with the forest, hills and camping make this a prime destination for anyone, as you will find many things to enjoy. ? Known to many surfers as one of the world's most fun waves, lower trestles brings out the weakness as well as the strengths of surfers. A split peak, tapered wall wave gives a nice slope with long runs. The cobblestone bottoms formed in the 80's due to wash off from San Mateo creek caused by EL Ninio have contributed to some great lefts. The Lower Trestles are known by many as high performance waves that give not only long runs but have the perfect speed to allow for great maneuvers, perfect airs and multiple turns.The perfect waves for not just the contestants but fans as well.??? ?
